Textile Workshop with Emily Hedges

Part of our Welsh Refugee Artists Programme

Venue: Hay Castle Clore Learning Space
Come and stitch a piece of wearable art in response to Hay Castle’s Artistiaid Ffoadur Cymru Refugee Artists exhibition and in support of refugees and asylum seekers coming to the UK today, with local artist, Emily Hedges.

As a group you will visit and discuss the exhibition, explore how other artists have responded to the stories and lives of refugees in recent years and look at some different approaches before you design and make your own piece with some simple embroidery stitches and printed letters. An inspiring range of materials will be provided, but do bring anything special you'd like to include from home.

The workshop is suitable to anyone over the age of sixteen. Some experience of hand sewing would be useful, but is not essential.

The day will start at 10.30am and finish at 4pm, with a break for lunch.

Emily has worked with groups of asylum seekers and refugees in the community. She designed and ran The Friendship Quilt project and has explored ideas of displacement and emigration in her own work.

PAY WHAT YOU CAN

We would like our events to be as accessible as possible while also making sure that we cover costs and are starting to introduce 'pay what you can' tickets.

We have tickets available at £50 (pay it forward) , £40 (actual cost), and £30(reduced rate).

Consider contributing more on the scale if you:have the ability to comfortably meet all of your basic needs
