20th Century Welsh Artists

Hay Castle is delighted to host a special talk by art historian and writer Peter Wakelin, offering unique insight into the exhibition 20th Century Welsh Artist.

In this event, Wakelin will explore the legacy of Martin Tinney, who for over three decades ran Wales’ leading commercial art gallery. From 1992 until his retirement in 2023, Tinney championed both established and emerging Welsh artists, transforming the visibility and appreciation of modern and contemporary Welsh art.

Wakelin’s talk will delve into Tinney’s distinctive approach—his integration of contemporary artists with key figures from the 20th-century Welsh art scene, including Gwen John, Cedric Morris, and Ceri Richards.
